The meaning of flowing in the 5rhythms
“Flowing” is the first of the five rhythms in the movement Meditation “5rhythms” by Gabrielle Roth. The 5rhythms – Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Breastfeeding – are a sequence of movements that reflect the natural energy flow and are danced as “wave”. Every rhythm represents a specific quality of energy and offers a way to express yourself and gain deeper insights into your own inner world.
Overview: the 5 rhythms at 5rhythms: Flowing | Staccato | chaos | Lyrical | Breastfeeding
Flowing: The first rhythm
Flowing is the female, receptive rhythm connected to the earth and emphasizes the topic of letting go and arrival. The movement in the flow is gentle, fluid and circular. It calls on the dancers to connect to the floor and its own body and to focus on perception. This rhythm emphasizes the feeling of your own roots and listening to the body. It is about being guided by the moment and the natural movement without solid structures.
Flowing characteristics
- Circular and soft movements: The movements in flowing are round and without sharp edges. Dancers can be guided by the ground and their inner energy.
- Connection to the earth: Flowing invites you to feel your own feet on earth and establish a grounded connection. The body swings gently as if it were part of natural gravity.
- Receive and accept: The focus is on accepting this here and now without resistance. Flowing is a state of receiving and a moment when the dancer opens for the energy around him.
- Slow pace and Mindfulness: Flowing requires a slow, mindful pace. Dancers take the time to feel their movements and get into a relaxed, flowing state.
Meaning of flowing in life
The flowing rhythm symbolizes the ability to be flexible and adaptable, without resistance to the natural flow of life. He reminds of how important it is to stay open to new things in life and to help with changes instead of being rigid and stuck. In personal processes, Flowing helps to earth, let go of old patterns and to start with an open, receptive attitude.
In the 5 rhythms practice Flowing serves as the basis and introduction to dance. He prepares the dancer to get involved in the next rhythms and gradually establish a deeper connection with himself and others.
